As the world’s most extreme escape artist, Robert Gallup has created some of the best, most insane death-defying escape stunts ever attempted.
Extreme athlete, daredevil, and escape artist, this modern day Houdini with rock and roll attitude, constantly pushes the envelope of sanity for live television, stage tours, publicity stunts, media and corporate events.
Whether dangling from a burning rope 328 feet (100m) above The Great Wall in China in front of thousands of petrified spectators, thrown out of a plane in a locked jail cell without a parachute, or set on fire in a straightjacket suspended from atop the tallest skyscraper in the southern hemisphere, each is a legitimately death-defying escape attempt where the consequence of failure would be catastrophic… if not death.
Robert Gallup’s deadly escapes are not magic tricks or illusions. Every element of each escape is completely legitimate and fully examinable by members of the audience and/or various police and military officers present. There are no “stooges”, camera tricks, special effects or “creative” editing. Everything is performed live, in real time, in one take, with no second chances.

Sample list of some of Gallup’s best, most death-defying extreme deadly escapes:
(Note: If an escape was attempted on more than one occasion, the city and country listed is where it was first successfully completed.)
- The Challenge of the Death Dive: Robert Gallup is handcuffed, leg manacled, chained inside of a mail bag, locked inside of an 8’ (2.5m) jail cell and thrown out of plane 18,000’ (5500m) above the Mojave desert … without a parachute! (Mojave, USA)
- London Suspended Glass Box Double Straightjacket Escape: On the heels of David Blaine’s 44 day event, Gallup creates a fully examinable, legitimately death-defying glass box escape. Secured by London police officers, Gallup is restrained by two regulation straightjackets, one over the other, and then locked inside a glass box with a trap door floor rigged to a hair-trigger timing device. Raised 100’ (30m) above 100 flaming steel spikes, Gallup has just two minutes to escape before the trap door is automatically released! (London, UK)
- Underwater Welded Cage Escape: Gallup is handcuffed, chained, padlocked and seamlessly welded into a completely examined steel cage; and without oxygen is lowered to the bottom of Auckland harbour. (Auckland, New Zealand)
- Victoria Peak Hanging Stocks Drop: Hong Kong police officers handcuff, leg manacle, chain and padlock Robert Gallup, then completely immobilize him head-to-toe in heavy duty clear packing wrap. His feet are placed into "trap door" stocks held closed by a hair-pin trigger connected to a 230’ (70m) rope. Suspended upside-down in the stocks, with the trigger rope hanging freely, Gallup is lifted skyward by a crane, and then swung out 165’ (50m) above the Victoria Peak valley jungle.
The escape begins when a timing devise is initiated that starts a large drum winch which in turn begins coiling up the 230’ (70m) trigger rope. Gallup’s challenge will be to escape from his restraints and reach the safety line dangling next to him before the trigger rope is wound taught releasing the "trap door" that holds Gallup’s ankles, plummeting him head-first into the jungle below. (Hong Kong, P.R.O.C.)
- Anchor’s Away Escape: Secured by Chinese military officers, Gallup is handcuffed, leg manacled, chained and padlocked to a ship’s anchor, then thrown overboard and dragged to the bottom of a 200’ (60m) deep river. (Wampu River, China)
- Hazardous Steel Drums Escape: Two steel hazardous waste containment drums, one slightly larger than the other, and a pair of regulation handcuffs are all completely examined by police officers and a committee of audience members. Gallup is handcuffed to the lid of the first drum, completely submersed in water and sealed airtight. Then the first drum with Gallup inside is hoisted and lowered into the second drum also filled with water, similarly sealed airtight, chained and padlocked. With only one breath in his lungs he must escape from what was designed to hold the most hazardous of elements for thousands of years. (Paris, France, and various locations on tour.)
- Skydive Handcuff Chain Escape: Considered the “Most Dangerous Handcuff Escape” ever attempted, Gallup is handcuffed, chained, padlocked and thrown out of a plane at 14,000’ (4270m), but then isn’t able to free himself to open his parachute until only five seconds before impact! (Perris, CA, USA)
- Great Wall Hang & Burn Rope Escape: Gallup is tied up head-to-toe by a team of Chinese military officers, suspended by his ankles and hoisted 328’ (100m) above the Great Wall, where three successive ropes that suspend him are then set on fire! (Great Wall, Badalin, China)
- Queen Street Bridge Jump Escape: To replicate Houdini’s near fatal Bridge Jump Escape, Gallup is handcuffed and leg manacled in the world’s most unpickable cuffs, then jumps from the very same bridge exactly 90 years after Houdini. (Melbourne, Australia)
- Underwater Steel Straightjacket Escape: Metal detected and stripped searched by Chinese police, Gallup is wrist, ankle and knee manacled, chained and padlocked to his torso, which itself is locked inside a steel straightjacket. With fifty pounds of restraints, Gallup rapidly sinks to the bottom of a 20’ (6m) pool where he makes his escape in full view of the audience and cameras. (Shanghai, China)
- Rialto Tower Hang & Burn Straightjacket Escape: Gallup is secured in a regulation straightjacket and suspended by a burning rope from atop the tallest building in the southern hemisphere, 1000’ (300m) above the pavement below. Gallup escaped, but only seconds before the rope burned completely through! (Melbourne, Australia)
